Frequently Asked Questions

Psychiatry FAQ's

What should I expect at my first psychiatric appointment?
The first consultation focuses on listening to your story in order to understand your concerns. The psychiatrist will carry out a full clinical assessment in order to work with you to define a diagnosis and discuss the most appropriate therapeutic options, which may include various therapies.
What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
Psychiatrists are doctors who specialise in mental health and can diagnose disorders, prescribe medication and carry out medical interventions. Psychologists focus on psychotherapy and psychological assessment. At NeuroPsyque, these two specialities work together for a complete treatment.
Are treatments like EMT and Neurofeedback safe?
Yes. They are non-invasive, safe and well-tolerated procedures with decades of scientific research and clinical application. They are always carried out in our clinic under strict medical supervision to guarantee their safety and effectiveness.
How are these treatments different from medication?
While medication acts chemically on the brain, these therapies directly modulate brain activity to regulate it. They can be used as an alternative to drugs in order to avoid their side effects, or simply when medication is not effective enough.
I'm not sure which speciality I should book. What should I do?
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. Our team will be able to guide you. In addition, during your first consultation, our professionals will direct you to the most appropriate speciality, if necessary.
Does NeuroPsyque deal with psychiatric emergencies?
No, NeuroPsyque does not have an emergency service. In the event of an emergency, you should go to the nearest hospital emergency department. We are located next to the Santa Maria Hospital, which has a psychiatric emergency service.
